Ahmed Kattan is the Deputy Minister of Labour for labour policies. He was an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at Um Al-Qura University (KSA) from 2011 to 2015. From 2011 until 2013, Ahmed was appointed as Head of the Computer Science Department in Um Al-Qura University. Also, he served as a consultant at the Ministry of Labor (KSA) in the Jobs Nationalisation Projectfrom 2011 to 2015. In 2013 he founded of a startup research company called Evolutionary Systems. In 2010, he worked as a research associate in the computer science department at Loughborough University (UK).  Ahmed is also the founder of the CEEC conference series that have started in 2009.

Ahmed Kattan's professional experience includes working as a programmer on the Saudi Arabian E-Government project in 2005 and teaching at School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at University of Essexin 2007.

In 2010, he received his PhD degree from the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at University of Essex (UK). He received his MSc in Software Engineering from the same university in 2007 and his Bsc from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2005.

Ahmed’s main contributions to science have been in the area of Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) and the applications of Genetic Programming and (GP). To that extent, Ahmed has developed a series of universal compression systems based on the GP referred to as the GP-zip family. In addition, he proposed several new novel algorithms based on the use of GP for several applications such as: data type analysis, Muscle Fatigue prediction and problem decomposition. He is serving as a reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, Man and Systems Part BIEEE Transaction on Evolutionary Computation and Elsevier Informatics and Computer Science Intelligent Systems among several other conferences in the field of Evolutionary Computation.
